Valencia achieves the No. 1 spot as the best city in the world for walking. This emerges from the World’s Best Cities survey by consulting firm Resonance, where Valencia is also listed as one of the best 100 cities in the world.

The city of Valencia has once again been included in this well-known ranking of the best cities to live in (World’s Best Cities 2024). They compiled this list by combining statistics from 400 cities worldwide and user-generated ratings and reviews. In addition to its No. 1 ranking as a walking city, Valencia also ranks 19th in the sights and monuments subcategory in the ranking.
Although Valencia does not rank first in this list, Valencia has been named best city to live in several times, including in InterNations’ top 10 expat cities.
Best city for walking
But back to the No. 1 position the city has freshly earned: the best city in the world for hiking! This score was generated by the website Walkscore.com, which describes Valencia as a “walking paradise. Within 20 minutes you can easily move around the city center, and daily shopping does not require a car.
We can think of other reasons why Valencia is a great city for walking, namely:
- The many parks found around the city, including the nearly 10-kilometer-long Turia Park
- Next to the park the kilometer-long sandy beach including a promenade, where you can stroll while enjoying the sea air
- The many historic buildings and architecture you encounter, making it easy to walk for long periods of time without getting boring
- Many days in the year perfect walking weather!
Hiking in Valencia region
When you’re done hiking in the city, you can still explore the beautiful region. In the Valencia region you will find plenty of natural areas where you can hike, from a leisurely stroll through the landscape of orange trees, to tough hiking trails through the Serra Calderona Mountains. You often don’t have to travel long at all to do this, and many places are accessible by public transport!
