Films And Series Filmed In Valencia

films and series filmed in valencia

The stunning and unique city of Valencia has long drawn professionals from numerous creative industries. After all, where better to conduct your creative projects than the recently designated World Design Capital?

Among the most exciting of these industries are film and television. And, to our joy, there are many examples of Valencia starring proudly on both the big and small screen. We detail some of our favourite films and series filmed in Valencia throughout the blog.

Moreover, this blog was prompted by our recent encounter with a film set near Mercado Ruzafa (pictured above), not far from our office. Find out more about what they are filming towards the end.

Our Favourite Films & Series Filmed in Valencia

Disney's Tomorrowland (2015)

We’re kicking off our list of favourites with Disney’s Tomorrowland. We consider this American science fiction film a must-see for all fans of the sci-fi and adventure genres!

Set in an alternate dimension called ‘Tomorrowland’, this film proved the perfect project for Valencia. To bring the vision to life, some of the filming took place at Valencia’s futuristic City of Arts and Sciences, as shown at 1:15 in the video above.

Game of Thrones Series 6 (2016)

An exciting one for fellow Game of Thrones fans – production chose to film parts of series 6 across sunny Spain. However, the location we’re most excited by is Peñíscola, a stunning coastal town within the Valencian Community, famed for its beautiful old town.

You can see behind the scenes footage of  Peñíscola from 2:10 in the video above.

Doctor Who Series 10 (2017)

We’re back to the famous City of Arts and Sciences for Doctor Who series 10. Here, Valencia once again proved itself as the perfect location for the sci-fi genre.

This comes as no surprise to us, as after a decade of living in Valencia, we’re still in awe of this incredible complex every time we see it! It truly is as if we have walked into the future.

You can watch a Doctor Who-style introduction to Valencia in the video above.

Vivir Dos Veces (2019)

A great option if you want to work on your Spanish, Vivir Dos Veces (Live Twice, Love Once) is a fantastic comedy-drama film that was shot in different locations throughout Valencia, including in Valencia city.

The story follows a retired teacher with Alzheimer’s Disease, who embarks on a journey to find the love of his youth before he succumbs to his illness.

Of course, you can also watch an English-dubbed version, but we always recommend sticking to the original and perhaps using English subtitles for a more authentic experience.

Westworld Series 3 (2020)

Unsurprisingly, we’re returning to the City of Arts and Sciences once more for another of our favourites: Westworld series 3. We enjoyed this series from the start, but the addition of Valencia in series 3 was the cherry on top of the cake for us!

You can watch the behind the scenes footage of Valencia in the video above.

What Are They Filming in Ruzafa?

Vasil Movie Valencia

So, we’re sure you’re wondering what they are currently filming in Ruzafa? Fortunately, we were able to speak to some of the crew for an inside scoop.

The film being shot in Ruzafa is called ‘Vasil’, to which the Barcelona-based studio, Filmax, recently acquired the rights.

We’re looking forward to seeing our beautiful Valencia starring on the big screen once again, and will be following production news to keep our readers up-to-date!

Keep an eye on our blogs and social media posts for more information about this project (and other creative projects) as we learn more!
